I thought they used engine bleed air to keep the windshield clear. Are you sure it’s a BBJ?

The YT poster says it is. Window shape looks right to me. According to Wiki, Boeing is now making a BBJ configuration of the 777, 787 and 747 as well as the 737.

It’s not the only method, they still have wipers.

Having a HUD, lucky punks. They were below minimums too, cat2 area, and went missed. God call. Some might be tempted to try to make it down that last fifty feet cause theyre so close. Good job for those guys......to quarterback them, they could have turned off the wipers any time into that climb out.

I still think GPWS call-outs sound like the “How It’s Made” narrator guy. (Brooks T Moore).
They definitely lost visual of the runway there... yeesh.

The wipers were probably the last thing on their mind. I know I drive with mine on after it stops raining if I’m paying more attention to traffic.

oh they are. just some monday morning quarterbacking. It’s something that comes to mind later when i fly the missed approaches. there’s way too much going on.

The pucker factor goes into overdrive when you go below minimums and lose sight of the damn runway. In a light aircraft with decent thrust its not so bad, but in a heavy with so-so engines... muscle memory and prayer helps.
Done both, not fun.

Wouldn’t the field have a Doppler radar to warn them that there was super-dense goop in the air at the threshold?

Radar like that isn’t everywhere and even if it is, we’re talking about a narrow column of waterfall that came down all of a sudden, something the radar can’t see develop that quickly. Remember, radar makes sweeps. Quickly but it’s still sweeps. Also, radar shows liquids and ices. Air currents it can’t see unless it’s cloud related motion and then...its still water it sees.
